Without question, standing seam roofing is the most popular style of metal roofing for homes. A standing seam metal roof is a succession of vertically – oriented sheet metal roofing panels secured in place by concealed fasteners and connected side by side with adjacent panels. The metal roof panels are usually connected by an overlapping/locking mechanism, which forms a raised rib. This rib is also called a standing seam.

Standing seam panels can be made out of out many diverse materials, including painted galvanized steel, galvalume (which is a combination of steel and aluminum and offers a higher level of protection from corrosion than galvanized steel), stainless steel, painted aluminum, Zinc and Copper.
Unlike conventional roofing systems, standing seam metal roofs can be installed on a very low slope roof. The slope of a roof is the calculation of the rise versus the run, or it can be stated as the number of inches vertically by the number of feet horizontally.
