More homeowners are choosing metal roofing because it offers a great value and lasting protection. Sustainability is what homeowners and architects are looking for in metal roofing materials. “Green-friendly,” high recycled content and energy savings are also high on the list.

The Metal Construction Association formed the Natural Metals Council in 2007 and that group defines natural metals as: metals that are installed in their natural state- unpainted and uncoated. This includes bare copper, titanium and zinc; as well as alloys, such as stainless steel; and metals coated with other metals, which include Galvalume, steel, terne and coated copper.

During the past decade, natural metals have enjoyed a renaissance in metal roofing construction. Natural metal materials are also defined as self-healing materials that naturally develop a protective layer or patina as it ages. Scratches and imperfections seem to vanish as the patina develops.

Natural metal materials are ideal for urban districts or historic settings because the surface desired will blend seamlessly into the surroundings. There is little or no maintenance required during the life span of a natural metal roof. After 50 years in service your natural metal roof will still look as great as it did in the first 20 years of service.
